Preliminary Exercise 13: Introduction to Sound in Film

 Introduction

     Sound in film is when the sound engineer adds in and manipulates the noise in that respective film. Also, it can enhance the film as well, it can add context, detail, and meaning into a certain scene. Some examples of sound you will hear in film are sound effects, dialogue, and the music. It also supports the genre, setting, and characters and with each it helps create both theming and atmosphere. It supports the atmosphere by interacting with the surrounding environment/setting. With that of sound in film audience engagement is created and bring all the other aspects together.

Reflection

What I learned from this exercise was how and why sound works in film. Each team member had an responsibility which are Cole A (me) working on dialogue, Eric E worked on sound effects, and Antonio M worked on the music. The main way we worked on this is through team for example suggestions and examples from different sources. I would say that we did a pretty good job on this assignment.

Preliminary Exercise 12: Camera Movement Videos

 Introduction

     The objective of the assignment was to create videos on different types of camera movement. The supplies needed to complete this assignment was our phone cameras and our storyboard. And the camera movements we selected were tilt, dolly in, tracking, random movement, trucking, and boom. The reason why we chose these camera movements are because we thought that they were simple and since this is our first time working on camera movement it would be a good start.

Reflection

     What I learned from this exercise was how to use the different camera movements. The roles we had on our team were Cole A (me) acting, Rahan D filming/camera man, Eric E also acting and directing, and Antonio M was not here on this day due to personal business but help with research. Resources that were used in this assignment were our phone cameras which filmed the different camera movements and our storyboard we used as reference to complete this assignment. My personal opinion on how we did on this assignment was good overall.

Preliminary Exercises 11: Camera Movement Video Storyboard

 Introduction

       The objective of this assignment is to plan out a storyboard for our camera movement videos. We illustrated the camera movements on our storyboard by drawing arrows to signify how the scenes were to be taken. Also, the resource we needed to complete this exercise was our phone to film and laptops for our research, and most importantly the sheet of the storyboard itself. The responsibilities of each teammate were Cole A. (me) to plan the action lines and tone as shot sizes, camera angle, and framing Rahan D. helped with that too and did the sketching, Eric E did the planning, and Antonio M did the research. It is important to have a storyboard because it helps plan out the scenes you do.

        Reflection

     What I learned from this exercise was how important a storyboard is needed to plan out different scenes and their context. The next for me and my team now is to actually go film the types of different camera movements. Which will use the storyboard to make the different types of scenes. This will be shown in Preliminary Exercise 12.
